Preservation Education

The Hands On! Preservation Education Program, which has both teen and adult components, provides in-depth experience in a range of activities and artisan crafts related to the field of historic preservation. Participants learn traditional woodworking, stained glass, masonry, glass blowing and other crafts in these hands-on workshops. Other workshops cover topics such as researching your house.

Hands On! programs are designed to encourage appreciation of the historic treasures in our communities, while imparting African American history. Programs introduce participants to artisans and professional trades people, providing skills, role models and mentors. Teens in particular may learn about new career paths.
