In 2014, a new 18,000 square-foot Education and Cultural Arts Building opening to the public. The striking, award-winning and sustainable gateway to the grounds of the original 19th century community of Weeksville, significantly expanded public, education, and research programming. Designed by the acclaimed firm Caples Jefferson Architects, the light-filled building features state-of-the-art exhibition, performance and educational facilities, and provides a green oasis for visitors and the local community. The main lobby leads to a lecture and performance space; suitable for a variety of functions. Workshops, Cafe and our beautiful lawns are available for smaller and outdoor events. Weeksville Heritage Center is a gem with a spectacular modern venue on the site of historic Weekville.
Weeksville receives a large number of requests for free space, including collaborations and partnerships: a limited number of space grants are approved each year. In alignment with our commitment to providing a convening place and sanctuary for residents of Central Brooklyn, our doors will remain open each Wednesday with extended hours as we host local organizations who are leading community organizing and providing much-needed services in our community.
