Bridgett M. Davis book launch

We're kicking off our second year of Words @Weeksville! Join us to celebrate the book launch of Bridgett M. Davis' highly-anticipated memoir, The World According To Fannie Davis: My Mother's Life In the Detroit Numbers. Our reading series' curator will have a lively chat with Glory Edim, founder of the Well-Read Black Girl book club.

Bridgett M. Davis is the author of the memoir, The World According To Fannie Davis: My Mother’s Life In The Detroit Numbers. She is also the author of two novels, Into the Go-Slow and Shifting Through Neutral, shortlisted for the Hurston/Wright Award. She is writer/director of the award-winning feature film Naked Acts, and a creative writing and journalism professor at Baruch College, (City University of New York), where she’s director of the Sidney Harman Writer-in-Residence Program. Her essays have appeared in The Washington Post, The Millions, Salon, LitHub, Electric Literature and O, The Oprah Magazine. A graduate of Spelman College and Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, she lives in Brooklyn with her family.  www.bridgettdavis.com.

  

Glory Edim is the founder of Well-Read Black Girl, a Brooklyn-based book club and online community that celebrates the uniqueness of Black literature and sisterhood. In fall 2017, she organized the first-ever Well-Read Black Girl Literary Festival. She has worked as a creative strategist for over ten years at startups and cultural institutions, including Kickstarter, The Webby Awards and the New York Foundation for the Arts. She received the 2017 Innovator’s Award from the Los Angeles Times Book Prizes for her work as a literary advocate. Her first anthology, Well-Read Black Girl: Finding Our Stories, Discovering Ourselves, was published by Random House in 2018. She serves on the board of New York City’s Housing Works Bookstore and lives in Brooklyn, New York.  https://wellreadblackgirl.com/
