1 pm—Fabric Food Forest Workshop with Field Meridians

Fabric Food Forest Quilting is an ongoing collaborative quilting project by Field Meridians, an ecological artist collective that is planting seeds for a Food Forest in Crown Heights. We invite neighbors to co-create a living tapestry as an invitation to the community to explore and celebrate how we connect to the natural world, to the plant food all around us, to Crown Heights, and to our more-than-human neighbors. We will invite participants to create their own quilt squares in any way that calls to them, be it through embroidery, applique, hand stitching, or drawing. The squares will then be added to our ever-growing tapestry built by many hands. In this workshop, you will explore the culturally rich tradition of quilting, pick up sewing skills, and learn about local ecology. We invite you to use this moment to think about your personal relationship to the natural world; to the trees, flowers, berries, bees, birds, and more – and the role it plays in our community.
2:00pm—Choose Your Flow:
Rest & Restore Yoga with Sensate Wellness

We invite you to join Six Travis for a Rest and Restore Yoga session designed for all ages, bodies, and skill levels. Revitalize yourself in the beautiful communal energy as you turn inward and cultivate inner peace through self-awareness. ***The session will be held outdoors, yoga mats will be given on a first come first served basis!
The People’s Land Audit with Growhouse NYC

Inspired by Weeksville’s legacy as a free Black landowning community, this hands-on workshop invites participants to learn about Community Land Trusts and imagine new futures for Black land stewardship in Brooklyn. Through a collaborative design activity using real sites within Historic Weeksville, participants will explore how land can be cared for as kin, not commodity.
3:30pm—Natural Dying workshop with Tajah (outofseam_)

Tajah (outofseam_) will introduce us to the transformative nature of fresh and dried plants onto silk fabric. We will engage various chemical elements that will be released as it adheres to material through heat and pH, making them into wearable art. This is a hands-on, interactive workshop with all materials provided. Each supporter will have their own scarf as an artifact of their natural dye journey.
Bio-designer and material artist Tajah Ellis focuses on the growth and decay cycles of Earth matter into a vibrant range of color, texture and patterns. Her craft takes the shape of fiber de-construction, emphasizing the stress endured during the beautification processes, interpreted through the artisanship of living material onto garments and tapestries.
