NYC Juneteenth Weekend Events: What’s Going On

NEW YORK, NY — It is Juneteenth weekend and there is plenty to do around New York City in celebration of the holiday.

Juneteenth is an annual holiday that celebrates the emancipation of African Americans from slavery in the United States.

This weekend’s events include a Juneteenth food festival in Brooklyn, a concert celebrating Black artists in Manhattan, and much more.

But before you head out, make sure the MTA isn’t messing with your commute. Also, with rain expected on Saturday, make sure to confirm that your event hasn’t been postponed.

Saturday

Rise in Spirit: A Juneteenth Celebration: Prospect Park, Brooklyn

The Prospect Park Alliance will host a Juneteenth celebration on Saturday from 1 to 6 p.m. within the Lefferts Historic House.

The family-friendly event will educate visitors on the African Diaspora, and also host performances by African dancers and drummers, a jazz quartet, and a gospel choir.

Juneteenth Food Festival: Weeksville Heritage Center, Brooklyn

The second annual Juneteenth Food Festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday at the Heritage Center on 158 Buffalo Ave.

The celebration of black food and culture will feature close to 30 Black food vendors, a marketplace, and a DJ booth.
